Delaware Seashore State Park
Part Time Program Leader
Delaware Seashore State Park is seeking a creative and motivated person to help prepare and present interpretive programs.Schedule is as follows:
Part time schedule for 5-10 hours per week including weekend and evening hours. There will be an opportunity to work additional hours during summer months (June – August) if desired.Pay rate: $9.75/hour This part-time position has a flexible schedule that will include weekday, evenings, mandatory weekend hours and does not provide benefits such as vacation, sick leave, medical/dental insurance, or overtime pay.
Responsibilities:
- Research, develop, schedule, and present interpretive programs related to the natural and cultural resources of Delaware Seashore State Park
- Natural resource topics include coastal ecology, marsh ecology, seining, astronomy, water quality, guided hikes, birding, kayaking, fishing, crabbing, etc.
- Cultural resource topics include the U.S. Life-Saving Service, American Indian history in the area and maritime history.
- Assist in other program areas such as special events, craft programs, etc.
Qualifications:
Required
- Graduate of, or working towards, a degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, Environmental Education, History or related field
- Must be willing to work weekends and 1 night per week
- Excellent customer service skills in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable on/near the water & ability to swim
- Must have valid driver’s license & be in good physical health
Preferred
- Experience presenting interpretive programs designed for people of all ages
- Knowledge of coastal ecology and the mid-Atlantic region
- Experience with kayaking, fishing, and other water-based activities
- NAI Certified Interpretive Guide or teaching experience
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
